SinteredPorous Polyethylene (PE) Filter

SinteredPorous-Polyethylene-PE-Filter-Cobetter.png

Cobetter sintered porous PE material is specially designed for specific filtration and ventingapplications.

Sintering is a special process for solid material.During the manufacturing process, it was made by heating and pressing the powder material under the temperature lower than its melting point. This special methodendows the material with good chemical resistance and excellent corrosion resistance.

The sintered PE filter has a repeating linear molecular structure -CH2-CH2, inert structure, strong molecular bonds, and stablechemical resistance. Sintered Porous Filters (Polyethylene) is a common polymer filter material in the market. Characterized by good physical properties, light weight, good thermoplasticity, and wide pore size range from 1 to 70 um, which can be widely used in laboratory for solid-liquid filtration/separation, medical and pharmaceutical equipment, automatic industry devices, and water filtration systems.

Moreover, Self-Sealingporous plasticfilter,a specialkind of Sintered PE filters, can beused as a design option asself-sealing ventfor filtering application,it is isalso widely used in medical & surgical applications.

Available Forms

- Sintered PE membrane
- Sintered PE plate
- Various shapes of PE sintered porous plastics in customization

Material Feature

High-density polyethylene (HDPE)
HDPE can be used continuously at temperatures up to 180°F (82°C) and intermittentlyused at 240°F (116°C). It is generally used to makelarge pore size of PE sintered material.

Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE)
UHMWPE is a strongand lightweight material,in addition tothe characteristics of the high density polyethylene (HDPE) properties it also hasthe characteristics of resistance to acids, alkalis and multiple organic solvents. The temperature limit of this material is the same as HDPE. UHMWPE is generally used to make the small pore size materialunder 20μm.

Surface Feature

-  Hydrophilic
-  Hydrophobic
-  Hydrophobic and self-sealing when exposed to water

Product Feature

Advantages compared with microporous membranes
A. PE sintered materials can achieve similar performance as microporous membranes, However, the process requirements for usersto assemble it to the deviceare very low. Generally, users can seal the filter and the device by mechanical pressing and mechanical interference fit, thus, no more need for complicated  and volatile welding method like ultrasonic welding, etc., which means less operational requirements on the user side. Moreover, using PE sintered material will not have the problemof static electricityduring the punching process, which microporous membrane has.

Process comparisonof IV Catheter
Using microporous membrane : Punching membrane - static elimination - membrane fixing - welding - Infrared CCD weld inspection - gas inspection;

Using sintered PE simplified process : filter assembly - gas inspection

B. Compared with other venting materials, PE sintered material has the unique advantage of self-sealing. Most of the venting materials (such as microporous membranes) have only the function of water repellent& venting, and two-way exhaust. But the self-sealing PE material willbe self-sealed when contacting with water, can play functions as one wayvalve:

Theoretical introductionof Self-sealing filters

-  High porosity (60%) ensureshigher flow rate and longer service life
-  Low drug and protein adsorption
-  Wide range of pore size areavailable
-  Applicable to different applications with different types of surfacefeatures: hydrophilic, hydrophobic, hydrophobic and self-sealing when
   exposed to water
-  Corrosion resistance:resist to strong acid, alkali corrosion and organic solvents
-  Excellent physical strength
-  High Cleanliness and purity, low extractables and leachables, andless particle shedding - - Different product forms and wide application range
