Bacterial Challenge Test (BCT)

Sterilize-Grade Filters

According to ASTM F838 standards, sterile-grade filters are one’s that can hold up to 1x107CFU /cm2 of B.diminuta (ATCC 19146) of challenged bacteria at levels ≥ 1x107/cm2 for the effective filtration area.


Tested Bacterial

  • 1. 0.22µm: Brevundimonas Diminuta
  • 2. 0.1µm: Acholeplasma laidlawii
  • 3. 0.45µm: Lactobacillus brevis

BCT Procedures First, a bacteria viability test must be performed with product liquid.  If not viable, modify or use alternative and if viable produce with the test.  

Mix B.diminuta and product liquid together, filter to test and examine the filtrate.
